Celebrity Boudoir: Kimora Lee Simmons

°°°

If you are addicted to the show Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane (like I am), you will know two things…that she has an amazing boudoir in her New Jersey home (ok, it’s a closet, but honestly, it’s probably the size of my living room and it even has a bathroom in it) -and- she embodies all things fabulous. She even has her own word, “Fabulosity”.

In Style magazine

It doesn’t really get much more fabulous than leopard print carpet, right? Probably not my personal choice, but that’s what I love about Kimora; she’s not afraid to be over-the-top. But even better is that, in addition to her love for fashion and material things, she publicly displays her love for her family and stresses the importance of being a good mother and business woman.

I like how she has arranged little vignettes around the boudoir, like this Louis Vuitton collection (which happens to be a very very small portion of her collection). I think it’s charming how she’s placed a photos on them to keep it personalized.

In Style magazine

Can you really even imagine having this many clothes? This is only one small area among many. And if you need a boost reaching stuff at the top, perhaps the stool that came from Gianni Versace’s estate will help?

In Style magazine

See…more of that LV collection lining the top of the room like it was part of the crown molding. And again, you will notice that she has personalized the space.

In Style magazine

Lastly, the mother of all areas…the shoe and accessories collection! I am left to wonder…when a woman has shoe collection like this, does she tend to wear her top five pairs all the time anyway?

In Style magazine

Now for the floor plan. As you can see, this boudoir is very organized. She has even had each piece photographed and the images stored, both in large books and on her computer, to reference when putting outfits together. It’s like a personal fashion database. I guess you have to be when you have a collection of this size…

Jeremiah Goodman

Ever thought of decorating the walls of your boudoir with paintings of a room that belongs to someone else? I absolutely adore these paintings by Jeremiah Goodman (often known by his first name alone). They are beautiful interior “portraits” that blend a beautifully designed room with a magical touch that leaves you feeling as though you’re in a boudoir wonderland. Every time I look at them, I get a warm feeling. The rooms look so cozy and warm, without diminishing their regal appeal. Here are some examples of Jeremiah’s work featured on Dean Rhys Morgan.

Sunday’s Best: Bumpkin on a Swing

(bumpkinonaswing.blogspot.com)

As you know, Sunday’s Best is where I highlight a blog or blog post that I enjoy. Today, I am pleased to share one of my favorite posts from Bumpkin on a Swing. This post is from her Wordless Wednesday – Legends Series, and it features all things Chanel!

°°°

Wordless Wednesday is just as it sound. Pictures without words. This is only because the pictures themselves are (as they say) worth 1,000 words. At Bumpkin on a Swing, it is not only the “wordless” part that you have to look forward to, it is her charming and witty writing that draws you in and makes you feel like you’ve known her for years, regardless of the topic. Here is a sneak peek of the Wordless Wednesday Chanel post….to the see the rest you must visit Bumpkin on a Swing. Don’t stop there though…while you’re visiting, check out some of her other posts too…

Marilyn Merlot

No, I did not misspell “Monroe”. Marilyn Merlot is just as it sounds…a nice blend of Marilyn Monroe and Merlot wine.

One evening in 1983 over dinner and a bottle of Merlot, a small group of friends who dabbled in homemade wines, dreamed up Marilyn Merlot. In 1985, they started Marilyn Wines and gave birth to the official “legendary” wine collection…Marilyn Merlot. A moderately priced collectible wine with the breathtaking  Marilyn Monroe on the label. Each year on June 1st, in honor of Marilyn’s birthday, a new bottle is released.

A few days ago, a bottle of 2008 Marilyn Merlot was released. This is the image that graces the front of the bottle…

2008 (marilynwines.com)

While these bottles retail for around $30-40 USD when released, they quickly sell out and increase in value. I began collecting back in the late 1990’s, but have slacked off a little in recent years. The first bottle I purchased was a 1997. At the time it was around $30 from the wine department of a local grocery store. It now retails for $200 on MarilynWines.com.

1997 (marilynwines.com)

I then purchased the 1996 from MarilynWines.com, which was a bit more expensive since it was older (the value has now increased to $225)…

1996 (marilynwines.com)

…And then for a few years made sure to purchase a bottle right at the time of release so I didn’t have to pay the higher prices again. To be honest, I don’t collect them for their worth, because I really don’t intend on selling them. I collect them because I adore Marilyn.

Now, I know I said I don’t collect them for their value, but guess what…the first bottle relased, from 1985, is now worth $3,800. Really any of the bottles from the 1980’s are worth over $2,000 if in perfect condition. So…you’d better get out quickly and buy a bottle…or two (one to collect and one to enjoy)!

They also produce some other Marilyn inspired lines, like Norma Jeane – A Young Merlot (which is a little more affordable and released in November), Marilyn Cabernet, Blonde de Noirs, and more.

Give-Away: The Carrie Diaries

As a farewell to Sex and the City week on MyLittleBoudoir.com, I thought it would be fun to do a give-away. If you remember back in my post titled  135 Days, I pre-ordered some copies of The Carrie Diaries. Naturally, I kept one for myself. I also gave one to my best friend as a gift when we went to see Sex and the City 2 on Friday. And the third copy is for a lucky My Little Boudoir reader.

"The Carrie Diaries" - Candace Bushnell

If you haven’t heard about The Carrie Diaries yet, in short it is the prequel to Sex and the City. It is written by Candace Bushnell, who was the same author of the book, Sex and the City, which later was turned into a television show and two movies. I am only five chapters into it, but I can’t wait for some alone time so I can read more…

Here is a write-up about the book from examiner.com prior to its release:

Did you ever wonder how Carrie Bradshaw got to be so fabulous? Well now you can find out who Carrie was before the Manolos, in Candace Bushnell’s latest books, The Carrie Diaries, set to be released April 27, 2010, just one month before the new SATC movie hits theaters.

The first in a two book series, The Carrie Diaries will chronicle Carrie Bradshaw’s teen years, following her as she develops her fashion sense, creating trends only Carrie could make popular. The book will also go along for the ride of Carrie’s first love, which is sure to explain how Ms. Bradshaw got her start in writing about her crazy relationships.

The most exciting thing will be who are Carrie’s friends? Teenage Carrie means pre-Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte, so will the new friends be mini-clones of the fab four? You’ll just have to wait and see, as details on this book are slow coming. But for those who have a hard time waiting, here is the cover art for the new book.

The CW channel should be all over this book, as a television series is a must. An ’80’s flashback to the making of Carrie Bradshaw would no doubt be a huge hit.

Thinking Outside the Boudoir: Sex and the City

°°°

As you may have noticed the theme on My Little Boudoir this past week has  been Sex and the City, so why not continue with that theme for this month’s Thinking Outside the Boudoir series post.

For those of you just recently visiting My Little Boudoir, Thinking Outside the Boudoir, is a series where I post each month a home from the movies that I admire. While some may not be practical for everyday life, or represent my overall ideal decor, I would love to spend some time in them, even just for a night. In some it is the decor that I fancy. In others it’s the architecture or floor plan. And in some I think it’s my fondness for the characters. With that, I believe Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment from Sex and the City The Movie fits into most of those categories.

For starters, having a studio apartment as a single woman in New York City, in most cases, pretty much means that your apartment is your boudoir and your boudoir is your apartment. I have always been fond of Carrie’s apartment even before the redesign. I think largely because I love her character, I love NYC and I love the idea of having a small space all to myself (and let me tell you, the fashions that are housed in this little studio are fit for a mansion, which could weigh heavily on my opinion too).

I love how the living area is bright and sunny and allows for a intimate conversation area with  your best girlfriends. The fabric on the love seats is beautiful and pops perfectly against the blue walls. Overall the look is simply lovely.

(materialgirls.com)

°°°

Then there are those special little accents that give a place character…like a bar cart (see in between Carrie and Charlotte) and a rotary black telephone.

°°°

°°°

Of course, living in the city in a confined space, a girl must be practical and allow for creative storage spaces and double uses for certain areas. A wall unit to store mail, office supplies and your fashion magazine collection is a brilliant idea (I’m guessing there could have a little shoe overflow from the closet, too).

°°°

The table in Carrie’s entryway is multipurpose. It serves as an entry table, serving table when entertaining (see above) and can be expanded into a dining table (on the rare occasion that dinner is not take-out in the living room).

°°°

Now for the grand finally…the boudoir! You may have already guessed, but my favorite showstoppers here are Carrie’s mirrored vanity and the lucite bench…not to mention her designer closet.

I love how the Chanel scarf is draped over her vanity chair. It serves as a very fashionable accent and shows her personality in her decor. Wouldn’t it be a dream to play dress-up here and then settle in for a little freelance work at a desk with a view of the darling SoHo neighborhood?

°°°

°°°

°°°

Now, if you love Carrie’s place, you’re going to go crazy over the apartment that she and Big own in SATC2…
