TCM Classic Movie Festival

For all of you fans of the silver screen that live in California, or who can make it there lickety-split, there is a fabulous festival that you must attend!

(TCM.com/festival)

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is putting on the TCM Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles, California from April 22nd to the 25th.

There will be a series of old Hollywood film screenings, including films like Casablanca (starring Ingrid Bergman), Carmen Jones (starring Dorothy Dandridge and Pearl Bailey), Sunset Boulevard (starring Gloria Swanson and Nancy Olson), Pillow Talk (starring Doris Day), Cleopatra (starring Elizabeth Taylor), Some Like it Hot (starring Marilyn Monroe), The Graduate (starring Anne Bancroft) and many many more.

°°°

What’s even more exciting is that there will also be discussions, Q&A sessions, expert panels, book signings and more. Such events include a wide variety of industry insiders, experts, and even some of the actors and actresses themselves (like Angelica Houston, Martin Landau, Nancy Olson, Tony Curtis and more).

Special Guests (L to R clockwise): Tony Curtis, Angelica Houston, Martin Landau and Nancy Olson

The festival events will be held at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, The Egyptian Theater, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and Mann’s Chinese 6. These are many of the same theaters and places that were frequented by the stars of these very films -and- where many movie premiers have taken place. Oh, to feel the glamour of old Hollywood in person!

Theaters (L to R clockwise): Grauman's Chinese Theater, The Egyptian Theater, Roosevelt Hotel and Mann's Chinese 6

The tickets range in price from $20 for a single event to $499 or $599 for a full pass. Visit TCM.com/festival for more information and to purchase tickets.

This event would probably be the next best thing to actually having lived back then to experience it. Although, to have the true glamorous Hollywood experience, one must retire to a luxurious boudoir at the end of the evening.

Sunday’s Best: Lily Lemontree

(lilylemontree.blogspot.com)

If you’re following the posts on My Little Boudoir you will know two things; that I have started a weekly series called “Sunday’s Best” where I showcase a favorite blogpost or series from another blog -and- that I have a fondness of a blog called Lily Lemontree.

Instead of sharing one single post from her blog, today I am going to share a series. The series is called “Look of the Week“. The looks that she selects are so stylish, usually in neutral colors (like black…one of my favorites) with classic lines. Occasionally she’ll even throw in some casual looks, like Gwen Stefani in her Wellies, for example.

Here are some of the looks that I fancy that have been featured in Lily Lemontree’s weekly series, “Look of the Week”. To see more of the looks, click here. I also recommend following her other posts as well  by visiting www.lilylemontree.blogspot.com.

Living Like Barbie

One of my favorite toys as a child was my Barbie dolls. I played with them until the sixth grade (this is when most girls had already stopped, but it was a secret that my best friend and I shared). My adoration of Barbie did not end there though. I have relived another generation with her through my daughter (who unfortunately doesn’t love her as much as I).

(barbiecollector.com)

As an adult I still enjoy Barbie from time to time. As you may have noticed in my previous post (Year of the Barbie), it is Barbie who is the subject of my 2010 calendar, both in my boudoir and at the office.

While my home (nor my husband) doesn’t allow for this this type of decor, if I were single or had a giant boudoir, I might really consider it….a sofa just like Barbie!

This chic Barbie doll sofa by Jonathan Adler,  is available for purchase on the Barbie Collector website. It is complete with two pillows and a throw blanket. Isn’t it darling? I would have been in heaven if I had this at age 8 in my three story “Barbie Town House”.

(barbiecollector.com)

As an adult I would still find it heavenly to own this sofa, but for my house instead. If you are lucky enough to have a boudoir that could accommodate a sofa -or- can get away with bright pink in the living room, you can have this look, just like Barbie!

Now if you loved that…you’re sure to love what’s next. A tour of Barbie’s life size Malibu Dream House by Jonathan Adler. You’re going to melt when you see her boudoir! Don’t forget to pause the My Little Boudoir Soundtrack first though (it’s in the right column)

Winner: Turbie Twist

Yes, I know, I should be ashamed for the amount of time it has taken me to post (and quite frankly to mail the package to) the winner of the Turbie Twist. The lucky winner was Ms. Lily Lemontree. You may recognize this name from a previous post on My Little Boudoir or from the ad on the right side of this very website. That is because she has a fabulous blog that I highly recommend you visit, stay awhile and become friends with. It’s quite lovely and if you enjoy My Little Boudoir, you’re sure to enjoy Lily Lemontree. While you’re there you may notice that My Little Boudoir is her blog spotlight for the month of April…how boudwonderful (boudoir+wonderful)!

She will be receiving this darling package in the mail soon…

Stay tuned for the next My Little Boudoir give away. It is going to be super duper spectacular (I promise).

The Littler Boudoir: National Velvet

One evening about a month ago, my daughter asked if we could watch one of my “Boudoir” movies. At first, I didn’t know what she meant, but then I realized that she thinks of my old Hollywood films as “boudoir movies” (that I watch in my boudoir and blog about on My Little Boudoir). It melted my heart that she was actually interested in watching an “old” movie with me. Most kids don’t know how to appreciate such artistry. I responded excitedly with a “yes, I would LOVE to watch a boudoir movie with you!”

°°°

I asked her to sift through my collection and choose the one she wanted to watch. She decided on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, with Elizabeth Taylor. I kindly swayed that choice over to National Velvet instead :). This movie also stars Elizabeth Taylor, but it is much more suitable for a child to watch. In fact Elizabeth herself is a child in the movie (as well as a young Mickey Rooney and Angela Lansbury).

°°°

The movie was part of an Elizabeth Taylor DVD box set that belonged to my Grandma Ellen. When she passed, I was happy to inherit her movie collection. We liked watching old movies together and I am so happy to start the same tradition with my daughter. Although, I must admit, I had never seen National Velvet. Recognizing that this movie wasn’t going to be filled with the glamour that I love so much about old films, I didn’t know what to expect.

°°°

I am pleased to report to you now though, that it was one of the best old movies I’ve ever seen. I just loved it! It is the perfect movie to share with your daughter (or even your son). It is a heartwarming story with a twist and multiple great lessons (for parents and children alike). I don’t want to spoil it for you, but if you’re not afraid of some hints about the film, you can watch this trailer…

P.S. Don’t forget to scroll down and pause the My Little Boudoir Soundtrack (on the right side) first.

Sunday’s Best: FrenchBlue

(frenchblue-frenchblue.blogspot.com)

As part of my Sunday’s Best series (which I’ve been slacking on), I wanted to feature one of my favorite posts from a lovely blog that I follow. The blog is called FrenchBlue. The post is on Fauchon of Paris. What is Fauchon, you ask? Fauchon is a traiteur in Paris. A traiteur is basically a retailer of fine foods, that are mostly ready to eat (a fancy grocery/deli of sorts). Fauchon appears to focus a little more on the sweet side.

Being obsessed with all things french (particularly Parisian), I was delighted to find out about Fauchon. I felt like the whole world knew about this fabulous place, except me. I was immediately smitten by the photos posted on FrenchBlue, and guarantee (now that I know about it) it is on the  must-see list for the next time I visit Paris (and, yes, I do actually keep a list). Let’s see if you are as crazy about this post as I am. You can view more photos by visiting the post on FrenchBlue (which can also be found in My Little Boudoir’s Blogroll).

Discount Shopping

I know, some people would rather not spend the time picking over a discount store’s merchandise where they only have a few of each item, however, I highly encourage it. You can find great items that would otherwise be sold at some of the top department and specialty stores, but at a much lower price.

My husband and I recently took a trip to T.J. Maxx to look for desk organizers and decor for my daughter’s birthday present. We snapped some photos of some of the lovely items they had that I though you might enjoy for your boudoir, office, dining room, patio, etc.

As I headed for the aisle with office decor, these leather jewelry boxes were screaming at me on the end cap. Aren’t the beautiful? They had them in shades of pink, pink/black, beige and turquoise/brown.

°°°

°°°

These notepads are so darling and would look so nice in a boudoir for writing a quick reminder note. I particularly love the cane lattice print.

°°°

This little desk (or vanity) organizer caught my eye because of the color and pattern combination.

°°°

And the same with these magazine organizers.
How about organizing Elle and Vogue in month/year order? Nice!

°°°

Organizing your bills and/or other papers in this
houndstooth handbag-esque file bag is perfect for a fashionable gal.

°°°

You know you couldn’t live without this somewhere in the home. I wasn’t going to place this picture, because my husband insisted on using the flash (which took out  her face), but I knew you boudoir beauties would appreciate it anyway. Who doesn’t love Audrey and Tiffany & Co.?

°°°

And lastly, a turquoise bamboo printed seat cushion. Perfect for any chair, whether it’s in your boudoir, dining room or out on the patio.
