Little Bo(udoir) Peep

Not many items say feminine like ruffles. Yep, just like Little Bo Peep’s undergarments…..

…..but now instead of just wearing them on your knickers for a “peep“…..

(babygirlboutique.com)

…..you can now enjoy them for a sleep in the “bo”udoir as well.

Jeremiah Goodman

Jeremiah Goodman

Ever thought of decorating the walls of your boudoir with paintings of a room that belongs to someone else? I absolutely adore these paintings by Jeremiah Goodman (often known by his first name alone). They are beautiful interior “portraits” that blend a beautifully designed room with a magical touch that leaves you feeling as though you’re in a boudoir wonderland. Every time I look at them, I get a warm feeling. The rooms look so cozy and warm, without diminishing their regal appeal. Here are some examples of Jeremiah’s work featured on Dean Rhys Morgan.

Thinking Outside the Boudoir: Sex and the City

°°°

As you may have noticed the theme on My Little Boudoir this past week has  been Sex and the City, so why not continue with that theme for this month’s Thinking Outside the Boudoir series post.

For those of you just recently visiting My Little Boudoir, Thinking Outside the Boudoir, is a series where I post each month a home from the movies that I admire. While some may not be practical for everyday life, or represent my overall ideal decor, I would love to spend some time in them, even just for a night. In some it is the decor that I fancy. In others it’s the architecture or floor plan. And in some I think it’s my fondness for the characters. With that, I believe Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment from Sex and the City The Movie fits into most of those categories.

For starters, having a studio apartment as a single woman in New York City, in most cases, pretty much means that your apartment is your boudoir and your boudoir is your apartment. I have always been fond of Carrie’s apartment even before the redesign. I think largely because I love her character, I love NYC and I love the idea of having a small space all to myself (and let me tell you, the fashions that are housed in this little studio are fit for a mansion, which could weigh heavily on my opinion too).

I love how the living area is bright and sunny and allows for a intimate conversation area with  your best girlfriends. The fabric on the love seats is beautiful and pops perfectly against the blue walls. Overall the look is simply lovely.

(materialgirls.com)

°°°

Then there are those special little accents that give a place character…like a bar cart (see in between Carrie and Charlotte) and a rotary black telephone.

°°°

°°°

Of course, living in the city in a confined space, a girl must be practical and allow for creative storage spaces and double uses for certain areas. A wall unit to store mail, office supplies and your fashion magazine collection is a brilliant idea (I’m guessing there could have a little shoe overflow from the closet, too).

°°°

The table in Carrie’s entryway is multipurpose. It serves as an entry table, serving table when entertaining (see above) and can be expanded into a dining table (on the rare occasion that dinner is not take-out in the living room).

°°°

Now for the grand finally…the boudoir! You may have already guessed, but my favorite showstoppers here are Carrie’s mirrored vanity and the lucite bench…not to mention her designer closet.

I love how the Chanel scarf is draped over her vanity chair. It serves as a very fashionable accent and shows her personality in her decor. Wouldn’t it be a dream to play dress-up here and then settle in for a little freelance work at a desk with a view of the darling SoHo neighborhood?

°°°

°°°

°°°

Now, if you love Carrie’s place, you’re going to go crazy over the apartment that she and Big own in SATC2…

Plexiglass Boudoir

This clip from the Prelinger archives is one that you must see (give it a few seconds to start playing….and don’t forget to scroll down and pause the My Little Boudoir Soundtrack first).

You be the judge. Is this passé or futuristic?

Thinking Outside the Boudoir: Breakfast at Tiffany’s

If you haven’t already noticed, the theme at My Little Boudoir recently is Tiffany & Co. So, what would be more appropriate than to feature Holly Golightly’s apartment in Breakfast at Tiffany’s for the monthly series called Thinking Outside the Boudoir. This is where I share my fascination of homes from the movies. While some may not be practical for everyday life, or represent my overall ideal decor, I would love to spend some time in them, even just for a night. In some it is the decor that I fancy. In others it’s the architecture or floor plan. And in some I think it’s my fondness for the characters.

Ok, for starters, who wouldn’t love to live in Manhattan? Perhaps you wouldn’t fancy it all the time or for raising children, but surely it would be delightful for at least a short while (or longer for gals like me). I would absolutely love to have a stoop, too!

°°°

Now for the inside. Simple, a little mid-century and a lot fabulous! I love the trellis wall panel, the pink and fuschia sofa (I mean bath tub) cushions, and the vintage kitchen. When you’re living the the single city life like Holly, you even drink milk from a wine glass!

°°°

°°°

There aren’t many items that scream boudoir like a sleeping mask. Being in an old building in NYC, the tassel ear plugs probably don’t hurt either.

°°°

My dream boudoir will most certainly have a solid old black rotary phone like Holly’s.

°°°

°°°

Now, what would a single woman’s apartment be if she didn’t have a bedroom vanity? It should also be complete (like Holly’s) with cosmetics and fragrance galore!

°°°

°°°

And if you think that all make-up and perfume application occurs in the boudoir, you’re mistaken. A girl on the go must have a last minute option for touch ups.

Tiffany & Co. Inspired Boudoir

Tiffany & Co. Inspired Boudoir

In my current boudoir, which I share with my husband, I often daydream about what my very own little boudoir would be decorated like. What if you had a boudoir that was inspired by something you adore? Since the topic of my recent posts have been Tiffany & Co., let’s take a look at how to create a Tiffany & Co. inspired boudoir.

1. FURNITURE

Tiffany blue (or white to contrast, if you’re using a Tiffany blue wall color) headboard, trimmed in faux diamond upholstery tacks by Diamond Head. I L.O.V.E. IT!! As you can see, it is inspired by the famous “Tiffany blue”, the white ribbon and, of course, DIAMONDS!

Here is a close-up view…

Since no boudoir is complete without a bedroom vanity, how about a mirrored one to pay tribute to Tiffany’s famous sterling silver?

Don’t forget about the splash of black that the Tiffany & Co. logo represents. This can be worked in with two black bedside tables.

2. WALLS

Inspired by the LBB. Your choice…blue or white. A color that I like is Benjamin Moore Sea Isle (#751).

3.LIGHTING

Add some sparkle to your boudoir with a crystal chandelier…inspired by, you guessed it, Tiffany’s famous sparkles!

4. WINDOWS

Tiffany & Co. key inspired window hardware and white silk or satin panels in honor of the white ribbon…

5. ART

6. ACCESSORIES

You could really go to town with accessories. This should get you started…

Backyard Boudoir

With the summer quickly approaching, let’s think about taking the boudoir outdoors. No, I don’t mean camping “boudoir style”. I mean taking the boudoir into the backyard (or recreating a second one outside rather).

As you can see, this boudoir beauty did it fabulously…

Now, here are some furniture options to help you create your own little boudoir outdoors…
