Traveling Boudoir

Don’t you  just hate it when you’re in a hotel room that doesn’t have a proper area for applying your make-up? I prefer to apply my make-up sitting down, at a bedroom vanity. It’s so nice when a hotel room is well appointed with a dressing table, though they are quite rare. Well, no need to worry, because now you can take your vanity along with you.

When I opened my December issue of Elle magazine, I saw this divine little treasure…

(Elle Magazine - Dec. 2010)

This trunk-vanity, called the 211 Trunk, can be purchased from The Conran Shop for $4,800. Not only can you take it with you, but it would be so darling in a boudoir as your primary vanity. It would be an excellent addition to a boudoir with a vintage feel to it.

They also have another option that is basically a miniature version, which ranges in price from $2,600 to $2,900, and is quite lovely as well. It is called the Marie Gallante Make-up Trunk. It is not a full sized vanity, but provides ample storage for your cosmetics, and a mirror to use when getting ready.

House of Harlow 1960

The other morning, whilst in my hotel room, I was watching Good Morning America. The guest was Nicole Ritchie, who was on to talk about her new novel, Priceless. During the interview though, something was brought up that I found even more interesting. She has her own clothing line and jewelry line, which I was unaware of. Now had this been the pink dreadlock wearing Nicole Ritchie, I probably wouldn’t have thought much of it, but now that she has matured, I love her style, so I was very interested to see what it was all about.

The clothing line, called Winter Kate, appears to currently consist mostly of jackets, shoes and handbags. The jewelry line is called House of Harlow 1960 (an homage to her daughter, Harlow, I’m guessing).

With my laptop in front of me, I quickly looked up both brands online, and I just had to share this 14KT Gold Tribal Cuff Bracelet with you. I love this! I am really in to the black/white/gold color combination this season.

You can see more of Winter Kate by clicking here and more of House of Harlow 1960 by clicking here. Take a look and let me know what you think…

Jean-Paul Gaultier for Roche Bobois

The man famous for his “boudoir” designs being worn outside of the boudoir (including Madonna’s iconic 1990’s cone bra look), has now designed a line that is truly meant for the boudoir (and perhaps the rest of your home as well).

(roche-bobois.com)

Jean-Paul Gaultier has designed a home decor line for Roche Bobois. You will notice that some pieces, like the blush bedding and corset-inspired pillows, take on a more feminine look, while other pieces like the tattoo-esque armoire and luggage-inspired chests take on a more edgier street vibe. The combination of these two looks reflect Gaultier’s signature aesthetic.

Amazing Grace…How Sweet the Smell…

One scent that I am addicted to is Amazing Grace by Philosophy. To be very honest, this is probably not a fragrance that I would have normally selected, but on a trip through the gauntlet (aka the cosmetics department at Nordstrom), I was approached by a sales person ready to provide me with a squirt of Amazing Grace lotion. I accepted, and went on about my business.

On my journey through the mall that day, I began to love the fragrance more and more. On my way back through Nordstrom I had to pick up a bottle of the lotion.

This past Christmas, my husband bought me the gift set. It included Perfume, shower gel and hand creme.

Though I am not in need of a replenish, I found a perfect addition on a recent visit to Sephora. It is a hand soap and lotion combo pack with a simple silver holder which would look absolutely delightful next to the sink in my boudoir bathroom and also provide me with a little bit of luxury every time I wash my hands.

The Danger of a Single Story

Much of the content that you see on My Little Boudoir is delightful on the eyes and may be inspirational aesthetically, but it is not always truly thought provoking (nor is it always intended to be). However, no woman who sits primping in her boudoir all day and fussing about her appearance is truly beautiful without having a some intelligence and substance to go along with it. That is why I have spent much time throughout life reading and studying different topics in my boudoir.

Today, I would like to share with you a thought provoking speech called, The Danger of a Single Story, by Chimamanda Adichie.

Before you press play, please scroll down and pause the My Little Boudoir Soundtrack.

This clip is 18 minutes, but trust me it is 18 minutes very well spent. Even if you can’t commit to the full video, please at least listen to as much of it as you  have time for. It will not disappoint. Enjoy

Clearly, many are unable to understand what I write about, but instead keep coming back to enjoy the many images on display. As I stated on the post Couture Cotton, I am preparing for a trip to New York. One of my favorite cities in the world. I will also be visiting some family.

I am looking to all of you boudoir beauties that may live in the NYC area that could direct me to any other boutiques, museums, restaurants or the like, that would be worth visiting in the short amount of time that I will be there.
