I {heart} Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day

I came across these boudiful (boudoir + beautiful) red heart-shaped tufted button slipper chairs (wow that was a mouthful) the other day online and deemed them perfect for my Valentine’s Day post and oh so boudoir worthy (although the red doesn’t really go with my color scheme). Aren’t they gorgeous? They are actually antiques circa 1940. They are for sale on 1stdibs.com.

Coincidentally the very same day that I found the chairs, I came across this Gil Elvgren pin-up who just so happened to be seated on a look-alike chair. I guess it really is authentic 1940’s boudoir decor. Just imagine these in your boudoir to sit upon while sliding on your marabou slippers…how fabulous!

Boudoir Essentials: The Boudoir Slipper

Every woman with a boudoir must own a pair of fabulously feminine boudoir (or house) slippers. To me a “boudoir” slipper should be a bit dressy…not the clunkers that are typical of this day and age that often times wind up looking like a mix of an old pair of clogs and something brought back from a hunting trip. No, I’m referring to a nice dainty pair of dress slippers like these:

And if it is comfort you’re longing for, how about one of these little darlings?

Just imagine dusting yourself with a powder puff (last month’s boudoir essential) and slipping on a pair of these beauties…pure luxury!

Camping…Boudoir Style

Most of my life people have always made the assumption that because I like girly things, that I would dislike the idea of camping. This is absolutely false. In fact, I really like camping. It is my husband who is the diva and decided he will not sleep in a tent this year. Ok, the real reason is because he has a bad back (he wouldn’t be too pleased if he knew I just called him a diva…shhh…don’t tell).

°°°

You see, my grandparents run a campground in northern California each summer now that they are retired. We try to make it down there every other year. So, now the question is (since my husband is boycotting the tent this year) whether we stay at a motel in town (about a 7 minutes drive from the campground) or rent an RV.

To be honest, I’m not particularly fond of either of our choices. You see, to me, if you’re “camping”, staying at a hotel is sacrilegious. Plus, the hotels in the area aren’t exactly my style. So, that leaves us with the idea of renting an RV, but they’re so expensive.

All of this lead me to the idea of a boudoir on wheels. If you could have such a thing, what would it look like? How would you custom design your boudoir camper, trailer, motor home, etc.?

Well, these inspirational photos should get your wheels turning (get it)…..

Believe it or not, you could actually stay in one of these fabulous Airstream trailers, if you plan to visit Cape Town, South Africa anytime soon. The roof of the Grand Daddy Hotel is the home of seven airstream trailers called the Airstream Penthouse Trailer Park.

Sorry ladies, you aren’t going to be able to stay in the trailers featured below, but I still wanted to share them with you because they are sooo boudwonderful (boudoir + wonderful).

This 1953 vintage Field & Stream trailer, named lil’ Cupcake belongs to Cat who also happens to have a great blog that I just discovered (and that you should check out) called The Vintage Housewife.

Update: Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief

(americanexpress.com)

Ok, I just found out a little bit more about the fashion show from my previous post. It is being hosted by Sarah Ferguson, Dutchess of York. The show will feature many internationally recognized designers, celebrities and VIP’s. The looks will be auctioned at a later date via net-a-porter.

The funds, which are being raised for Haiti, will mainly go to rebuilding the healthcare system for women and children.

Now, for all of you that aren’t American Express cardholders, it appears that this is simply a pre-sale for Amex holders. So, I have a hunch that the tickets will be made available to the general public after the pre-sale, which ends on Monday, February 8th. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com.

Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief

For all of you fans of fashion, who also have a soft spot in your heart for Haiti (like me), you may be interested in this fabulous event I am about to share with you.

Naomi Campbell is putting on a fashion show during the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, where superstars will walk the runway to benefit the people of Haiti. It is called Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief. In addition to the fashion show, the looks from the show will also be auctioned off.

I am on the email distribution for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and it was announced today that American Express cardholders can purchase tickets for this event. To purchase tickets you can visit AmericanExpress.com and sign-in (as a cardholder). Then, mouse over the “Explore Rewards and Benefits” menu and click on “Entertainment”. The event will be held on Friday, February 12th in The Tents and Bryant Park. Tickets are for $100-$150 per person.

Unfortunately I will not be able to make this event, but for those of you within driving distance, or who can quickly hop on a plane, hopefully you can make it!
