Backyard Boudoir
With the summer quickly approaching, let’s think about taking the boudoir outdoors. No, I don’t mean camping “boudoir style”. I mean taking the boudoir into the backyard (or recreating a second one outside rather). As you can see, this boudoir beauty did it fabulously… Now, here are some furniture options to help you create your own little boudoir outdoors… 3

Vogue (…not the magazine)
As you may have noticed by listening to the My Little Boudoir Soundtrack, I love Madonna’s song Vogue (I also love the magazine). My favorite part of the song is when she names the silver screen movie stars. Here is a visual rendition for your viewing pleasure… Greta Garbo… …and (Marilyn) Monroe… …(Marlene) Dietrich… …and (Joe) DiMaggio… …Marlon Brando… …Jimmy Dean…on the cover of a magazine… …Grace Kelly… …Harlow, Jean (Jean Harlow)…picture of a beauty queen… …Gene Kelly… …Fred Astaire… …Ginger Rogers…dance on air… They had style, they had grace…Rita Hayworth, gave good face… …Lauren (Bacall)… …Katherine (Hepburn)… …Lana (Turner), too… …Bette Davis…we love you… Ladies with an attitude, fellas…

Hollywood History: William Travilla
While the subject of the monthly Hollywood History lesson on My Little Boudoir is typically an actress, this month the lesson will be much different (but not too far away from the roots of My Little Boudoir). Meet William Travilla. He is responsible for this… Born on Catalina Island, just off the California coast, William Travilla had a passion for art from a very young age. He attended the prestigious Chouinard School of Art in Los Angeles, where he was advanced to adult classes at the age of eight. As a teenager, the burlesque clubs that he passed on his way to school began to pique his interest. Before long…

Give-Away: Turbie Twist
I love the look of a turban on a woman. I think it is a great way to show off a beautiful face. Plus, it can serve as a quick solution on a bad hair day. Some are fancy… Some are casual… And some should only be worn in the boudoir… While there are many variations of turbans for women, a boudoir turban is a fabulous item to own. I recently purchased one in “My Little Boudoir” blue. It’s called a Turbie Twist. It can be used on wet or dry hair. It is a great way to keep your hair out of the way while applying make-up, keep it…

Thinking Outside the Boudoir: The Prince and the Showgirl
If you saw my first post in the monthly series Thinking Outside the Boudoir, you will know that I have a fascination with certain homes in the movies. While some may not be practical for everyday life, or represent my overall ideal decor, I would love to spend some time in them, even just for a night. In some it is the decor that I fancy. In others it’s the architecture or floor plan. And in some I think it’s my fondness for the characters. The movie home that I want to share today is from The Prince and the Showgirl. In this film, Charles, the Grand Duke, played by…

Thinking Outside the Boudoir: How to Marry a Millionaire
Sometimes it’s about having more than just your Boudoir. It’s about having a fabulous home in general. We often see examples of extravagant homes we would love to own on TV or in the movies. Though there are those that, while not super fancy, we still adore. Maybe it’s because we love the movie or come to feel a kinship with the character. Whatever it is, I know that there are some places that I would like to call my own, even just for a day. Each month, I will share with you a home from a movie or television show that fascinates me. This month, the home is from…

Hatchoo…
Every true lady should have a dainty handkerchief in her boudoir, even if it’s only used for weddings, break-ups and funerals. Today, in preparation of putting together my online boutique, I attended the Seattle Gift Show. While there, I was delighted to find these vintage reproduction handkerchiefs by LuRay Collection. Aren’t they darling? If you’re feeling a little bit offended, as though I’ve suggested you’re not a true lady because you don’t own a fancy handkerchief, no need to fret, because you may have a chance to own this beautiful vintage reproduction (don’t worry, it’s new) handkerchief (with a chinoiserie touch) that I purchased today. The winner will be selected…

Sir Cecil
If you’re like me, you probably know Sir Cecil Beaton best for his photography… However, he was also known and very well respected for his work as a costume designer, artist, set designer and published diarist. He designed costumes for many hit movies, such as: Gigi (1958), Anna Karenina (1948) and My Fair Lady (1964) Now we can enjoy a bit of Cecil Beaton in our homes. His sketches were reproduced into a creation of wonderful fabrics and wallpapers. Here are some that I fancy. I especially love the Pelham Check. See more on cecilbeatonfabrics.com. Here are some examples of the fabric put to good use. Cecil Beaton was born…
