Celebrity Boudoir: Jayne Mansfield
The boudoir and en suite bathroom of the voluptuous bombshell actress, Jayne Mansfield, has become iconic. It is best known for the heart-shaped gold lined bathtub with pink carpeted…um…well…EVERYTHING! The feminine theme of her home simply screams boudoir. Of her estate, one could say that the heart served as the crest (CHALLENGE: How many hearts can you find?). It was a respite oasis and a palace of sorts that provided a dreamy backdrop for her her life. There are many things about this home that I love (and some that I would pass on…i.e. carpeted walls). Nobody can deny that this was a special unique home that had Jayne’s signature…
Reclaiming My Throne
I really do love a dressing table/vanity in my boudoir. Not only do I think it looks charming, but it makes getting ready more of a sacred ritual. Ever since my vanity was destroyed from being broken twice during moves (once by my dad and once by my husband…if they’re reading this, they should still feel guilty because I actually shed tears over it), I feel like part of my womanhood is missing (is this possible?). I stopped at a garage sale this past fall, and it was clear that everything belonged to an elderly woman who had held onto her precious items her whole life long. While it was probably a sad situation that prompted the garage sale, I am honored to give her items new life and cherish them as she did. I purchased two delightful bone china teacups, a few vintage jars and an old inexpensive drug store mirrored perfume tray. I wasn’t in love with…
Mirror Mirror on the Wall
On a recent emergency trip to my local Costco for bacon (yes…I said, “emergency trip for bacon”…to my husband, if you’re out of bacon it’s an emergency), I came across one of those fabulous “treasure hunt” finds that Costco is famous for. In the center of the warehouse was a road show with mostly art, but they also had these spectacular Venetian-style mirrors. They would be perfect for a boudoir. I’ve been eyeing a new mirrored vanity and I don’t know if I love the mirror that matches it. Since that mirror is sold separately, I’m thinking of going back to Costco to get this one instead (see above). Hopefully…
